A home cook has whipped up a delicious caramel spread using Cadbury Caramilk - and mothers are going crazy over her easy-to-follow recipe.

The Australian mother said she decided to buy her family a block of the sought-after chocolate to see what all the fuss was about - but she found the piece was too sweet for her tastebuds.

So she decided to turn the uneaten treat into a gourmet caramel-choc truffle spread to enjoy with bread - and it's being compared to a slice you don't have to bake.

Mother's homemade Caramilk spread recipe

250g of Caramilk chocolate - break or chop into pieces

150g crème fraîche

30g butter

30g milk

Pour crème fraîche, butter and milk into a pot, and then bring to simmer

Take off stove

Placed the chopped Caramilk into the pot, let it sit while it melts. Then stir until there's no lumps

Pour into a container, then pop into the fridge for a few hours

Serve when it's set

'I wanted to see what the fuss was all about so I bought a block. One piece was all I could eat, it was way too sweet for me,' she said in a Facebook group.

'My husband thought the same so I can't rely on him to finish it. Instead of binning it, I thought I'd use it in a recipe with things I already have in the fridge.

'With some crème fraîche, butter and milk. I made a nice caramel-choc truffle spread and it tastes so good, rich and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness.

'Just put all ingredients into a pot, bring to a simmer, take off stove, pour in chopped Caramilk pieces, stir and watch it melt. Into the fridge for a few hours and there you have it! Delicious.'

The post was quickly met with praise, with many saying they will try the recipe at home while others suggested it would be a great filling for other desserts.

'This recipe would be a great filling for melting biscuits. I'm going to try it,' one said.
